The exterior stained glass mosaic mural on the west face of the Villa Harvey Mandel in San Diego, CA is among the largest such works of art of its kind in the world. The finished mosaic mural measures forty three (43’) feet wide and seventy two (72’) feet tall. The exterior glass mosaic artwork is composed of one hundred eighty four (184) individual panels approximately 3’x 5’ including eight (8) panels fabricated on clear laminated glass mounted over existing windows which can be viewed from the building interior during the day and at night backlighting blending into the fabric of the balance of the opaque mosaic surface which is exterior lite artificial in the evening.
The glass mosaic artwork was one of the last pieces by world renowned artist/ designer Mr. Italo Botti. Mr. Botti working closely with Father Joe Carroll developed the mosaic mural artwork which celebrates the volunteer spirit of the community.
This monumental artwork was sadly completed four months after Mr. Botti’s death. The guidance for the completion of the artwork was picked up by Italo’s wife Mrs. Ethlyn Panzironi Botti and son Mr. Christopher Botti both accomplished artists and designers.
